Biology and Chemistry Teacher Summary: The Biology and Chemistry Teacher provides standards-based science instruction aligned to the Arkansas Academic Standards for Science to support student mastery of biological and chemical concepts. The teacher facilitates the development of scientific literacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills necessary for student success in college, careers, and civic life. This position requires a knowledgeable, adaptable educator who demonstrates strong time management, leadership, and a commitment to high-quality instruction. The teacher will utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including laboratory experiences, inquiry-based learning, and technology integration, to meet diverse student needs. The position includes both classroom and laboratory settings and requires adherence to established safety procedures for handling scientific equipment and materials. Physical Qualifications Ability to bend and squat to access materials Ability to reach overhead and lift objects up to 5 pounds Ability to safely conduct and supervise laboratory activities Qualifications Holds a valid Arkansas teaching license in Biology, Chemistry, or an appropriate Science endorsement Meets all licensure requirements established by the Arkansas Department of Education Demonstrates understanding of and compliance with the Arkansas Right to Read Act Knowledge of secondary science content, laboratory safety procedures, and instructional best practices Ability to effectively manage a classroom and foster a positive learning environment Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging instructional activities aligned to the Arkansas Academic Standards for Biology and Chemistry Develop pacing guides, units, lesson plans, and assessments utilizing High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) adopted by the district Establish and communicate clear learning objectives for all instructional activities Provide inquiry-based laboratory experiences and hands-on learning opportunities Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic needs of all students Integrate relevant technology to enhance instruction and student engagement Assess, monitor, and evaluate student performance and development Assign and grade classwork, laboratory work, homework, and assessments Provide timely and constructive feedback to students Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress Prepare required reports and documentation in accordance with district and state expectations Prepare the classroom and laboratory environment for safe and effective instruction Establish and enforce classroom rules, procedures, and safety protocols Maintain discipline in alignment with district policies Monitor students during instructional and non-instructional periods Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and needs Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and professional learning communities Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and instructional improvement Remain current on Arkansas standards, instructional practices, and developments in science education Participate in required professional development and curriculum programs Administer state and district assessments in accordance with testing guidelines Maintain professional records for licensure and evaluation purposes Follow all district and school policies and procedures Sponsor student activities and organizations as assigned Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee The above list is not exhaustive, as this position reflects the office of the superintendent and the district.
